Healthy for 2017

Take a moment to think about past resolutions for the new year. Exercise more, lose weight, spend more time outdoors – do any of these ring a bell? New year or not, most people want to be healthier in some way. As we enter 2017, let’s go over some ways we can be healthier here in South Walton.

The Florida panhandle boasts some of the country’s top beaches and we can see why. Soft sugar white sand and emerald blue-green waters draw us in over and over. Why not get up early and go for a walk along the water? Grab a buddy and take a run down by the shore. Or take a stroll with your significant other at sunset. Burn calories while getting some sun and fresh salt air.

Along 30-A is a spacious sidewalk for a bike ride or pushing the kids in their stroller. A peaceful stroll hearing the waves or watching the birds over the lake is a great way to relax and feel better all around. The Gulf Place lawn is an ideal place to throw a football around or kick a soccer ball.

If you’re more interested in group fitness indoors, there’s a number of studios to choose from. SoWal Pilates, Balance Health Studio of 30-A, Pure Barre, and ThiBod Fitness are among the fitness centers in our area. Memberships are available as well as daily or monthly packages.

If your goal is to eat healthier, check out the Farmer’s Market in Grand Boulevard each Saturday from 9am-1pm. The 30A Farmer’s Market is in the Rosemary Beach Town Center each Sunday from 9am-1pm. You can purchase local fresh produce and organic goodies which can definitely contribute to a healthier you. The food you get from the farmers market reflects its truest flavors free of pesticides, hormones, and genetic modification making it healthy AND delicious.

Whatever you decide to improve for 2017, tell someone! Tell your friends or family so they can either join you or hold you accountable. Write it on a post-it note and leave it out as a reminder each day. Leave some running shoes in the car to make a run more probable. Put your alarm on for the weekends to remind you of the Farmer’s Market.

We hope you have a great year!
