South Walton Hosts Kids Fishing Tournament and Spring Concert Series with 5K

Thursday, April 4, 2013

The Seventh Annual CCA Kids Fishing Tournament will take place on Saturday, April 13th in Grayton Beach. This event is sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association. The CCA South Walton Chapter is a group of individuals who believe in conserving and protecting Florida’s marine fishery resources.

The tournament is a popular event with the first 100 kids to be given their own rod and reel combo from Fish Florida. The heaviest live fish weighed will determine the leader of each age group from boys and girls, ages 15 and under. The tournament will be held from 7am to noon.

Every Saturday morning from 9:00am-1:00pm, Seaside Farmers Market is a great place for local specialties. Fresh produce, baked goods, dairy products, and native plants are available for purchase, as well as cooking demos and activities to enjoy. The location is in Seaside near the Raw & Juicy smoothie airstream.

The Alys Beach Spring Concert Series will be held on Wednesday nights during the spring season. Many will enjoy the free live entertainment including bands Heritage, the Forrest Williams Band, and Daphne Willis. These bands will perform in the Alys Beach Amphitheatre near the Seagrove area. Piper’s Restaurant on 30-A will offer food and drinks to purchase. Visitors to attend can find accommodations at many nearby vacation rentals.

On April 20th from 10:00am-5:00pm, residents and visitors will celebrate Earth Day at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. The festival is free to the public and will feature environmental education exhibits and hands-on activities, children’s programs, and cooking demos. This event, now in its fifth year, attracts over 600 visitors each year. A 5K race will begin at 5:00pm on the winding course through the Preserve that loops at Campbell Lake. Entrance fees to the park will be waived for all Earth Day events.
